The US Navy styling is just weird to see on a Japanese car. Would have made a lot more sense on something American.

That's what I said too, but I showed this to my dad, and he remarked that because of American cars being more boxy (thinking of the charger, challenger, camaro, and mustang), that it fit on the s13 well because it reminded him of a jet without wings.

Maybe the USN captured it and decided not to let it go to waste...like the USAF did with this MiG, for instance!

I don't know, it's hard to say. That Nissan maybe more American than most American cars. I know a Toyota was the most American made car for a few years until recently when a Ford passed them: http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/ca…

True, but something inspired by the Mitsubishi A6M Zero would make a lot more sense, or perhaps the Mitsubishi F-2 jet fighter if it has to be something newer.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the car above (S13 chassis Silvia coupe) which was only sold in Japan. Sure, the US-spec 240SX coupe was identical save for the front so I can see part of where your confusion stems from, but IIRC it was still made in Japan.

No idea why the USN would capture a Japanese plane in the 90s (45 years after the war ended), but oh well.

It's weird, but the article says that it was influenced by the US Navy presence in Japan...I can see that...
But yeah, a bit weird on an s13...

The S13 could easily be USDM with a RHD conversion (since for some reason people want to drive on the wrong side of the car as a fad). Of course I didn't look close enough to see the narrow Japanese signs, otherwise I would have specified that it COULD have been more American had they used a US car.

There's a link to the Speedhunters article in the OP with info on the car, and the guy behind it (Satomi Nakatwatase) is already a bit famous for making a German panzer-themed S14 Silvia (an equally confusing combination). I've also never heard of anyone being stupid enough to RHD convert a 240SX, but if you say so...
And, like I said, the 240SX was produced in Japan (Nissan's Kysh plant to be specific), so there's nothing American about it except the underpowered KA24E truck engine they were forced to put in it due to issues with passing the CA18DET and SR20DET engines through emissions tests.
